Ibrahim Mousawi, foreign news editor of the Hezbollah TV
station, al-Manar TV, will talk on ”War, Islam & Resistance” at 8pm
on Wednesday (November 1st) in Sandino’s Cafe Bar, Water
Street. Mr. Mousawi is on a speaking tour of Ireland, as a guest of
the Irish Anti War Movement.
In a
statement yesterday, Davy McCauley of the Derry Anti War Coalition
said: “For 33 days this summer, the Israeli military laid siege on
the people of Lebanon. Using the deadliest of modern weaponry,
including bunker busters manufactured by Raytheon, Israel was
confident it could win a swift decisive victory.
“But
the long-planned attack aimed at destroying Hizbollah ended in
humiliation for Israel. A small band of irregulars kept at bay one
of the world’s most powerful armies for more than a month. For the
first time ever, the Israel Defence Forces were unable to prevail.
”This outcome was not only a shock to the Israeli military. It was
also a devastating blow to George Bush and his junior partner Tony
Blair in their attempt to rescue US global hegemony from the debacle
in Iraq .
“The
meeting at Sandino’s on Wednesday will give opponents of the war an
opportunity to discuss one of the major turning points in the
conflict---the defeat of US/Israeli forces in Lebanon.
”Ibrahim’s speaking tour also provides an opportunity for anti war
supporters to hear more about the real nature of Hezbollah and how
its resistance forced the Israeli defeat.
“All
are welcome to come along and join in the discussion, irrespective
of their political views.”
